Abstract:

To screen out elite fruit-based plants of Moringa oleifera, 30 Moringa families (15 to 30 strains per family) were used as test materials in this study through follow-up observation and comprehensive evaluation for three consecutive years. Yield was the main indicator, while consideration was also given to plant height, crown width, ground diameter and correlative indicators of fruit pods (including single fruit weight, fruit pod length, fruit pod width, number of single pod seeds, etc.). After primary selection, double selection and final selection, 30 excellent individual plants with good yield, well fruit type and full-seed were finally selected from 30 families. It could provide basic materials for selection and breeding of Moringa in the later period, and theoretical references and technical methods for Moringa breeding in hot and dry areas.

Key words: Moringa oleifera, excellent individual plant, selection, comprehensive evaluation, character indicator
