Abstract:

Michelia guangdongensis is a new and rare native tree species for foliage viewing. It has been introduced and applied in south and east China due to its high ornamental value, which is attributed to its evergreen characters and good shape, and its buds, twigs and petiole leaves are densely covered with reddish brown pubescent hair. In this review, we summarized the morphological characteristics, ecological distribution, genetic distance, photosynthetic physiology, seedling cultivation, hybrid breeding and ornamental use of M. guangdongensis, and discussed the research on its natural population, endangerment mechanisms and population genetic diversity, as well as the establishment of hybrid breeding goals, selection of new varieties, resource evaluation and cultivation of strong seedlings, in order to provide reference for the protection of this species and the development and utilization of new and excellent ornamental resources.
