Abstract:

The main objective is to explore the effects of simplified cultivation on the yield and fiber quality characters of different cotton varieties. Using three different cotton varieties, the effects of normal pruning and non-pruning on cotton yield and fiber quality were studied under moderate plant density (52000 plants/hm2). The results showed that pruning measures had no obvious effects on boll weight, seed index, lint percentage, fiber length, micronaire value, uniformity index and fiber elongation, but significantly influenced the fiber strength (F=7.27). There was no significant interaction effect between pruning measures and varieties on yield components and fiber quality traits. Pruning significantly improved fiber strength of cotton variety under moderate plant density (52000 plants/hm2), but it had no significant effect on yield components (boll weight, seed index and lint percentage).

Key words: cotton variety, pruning, sympodial branches, cotton yield component, fiber quality
