Grain Amaranth Germplasm Resources in Guangxi: Identification and Evaluation of the Quality Characters

Abstract:

The local germplasm resources of grain Amaranth in Guangxi are extremely rich and diverse. In order to provide a theoretical basis for breeding and production of grain Amaranth in Guangxi, 61 Guangxi grain Amaranth germplasm resources were used as materials, and 4 main quality characteristics of protein, starch, fat and selenium content of Amaranth were detected, analyzed and evaluated. The results showed that the average content of protein, starch, fat, selenium was 14.59%, 41.37%, 4.89%, 0.056 mg/kg, respectively. The variations of different traits were different, and the selenium content varied the most. Different relationships appeared among different characters. Protein was significantly and positively correlated with starch, while it was significantly and negatively correlated with fat. Fat was significantly and negatively correlated with starch, and it was significantly and negatively correlated with selenium. The quality characteristics comparison of the species from different sources showed that the average contents of protein, starch, fat and selenium of local seed resources in Baise City were significantly better than those of other cities in Guangxi. 4 multi-item high-quality resources, 7 two-item high-quality resources and 16 single-item high-quality resources (higher-protein, higher-starch, higher-fat or rich-selenium) were screened out.
