Abstract:

This article reviewed the beginning and end of a trade war launched by the United States against China based on the results of the ‘301 Investigation’ since March 2018, analyzed a series of negative effects brought by the continuous escalation of the trade war, the shortage of domestic supply of agricultural products such as soybean and corn, and the high degree of China’s import dependence. The escalating trade war forced China to innovate bio-agricultural technologies. As bio-agriculture has become a new economic growth point, Shenzhen regards bio-agriculture as one of the important contents of implementing innovation-driven development strategy and cultivating strategic emerging industries. Shenzhen, taking the leading role in the bio-agriculture industry, should initiate the agricultural supply-side structural reform, improve the resource allocation efficiency, develop bio-agricultural technologies, foster innovative bio-agricultural enterprises, and substantially promote the development of China’s bio-agricultural industry.

Key words: bio-agriculture, trade disputes between China and the United States, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen, innovation
