Abstract:

The article aims to enhance the cognition of continuous cropping obstacles and provide theoretical support for the millet rotation system and sustainable production. Through the comparison of the crop rotation for one year and continuous cropping, we studied the effect on the leaf shape, leaf content of chlorophyll and nitrogen of dry-land millet. It shows that the continuous cropping could reduce leaf area for both the individual millet and the group, which seriously influences the leaf growth of millet, depresses the content of nitrogen and chlorophyll and the chloroplast development. Therefore, the continuous cropping is not a proper practice for millet production, and suitable crop rotation methods should be selected to achieve stable and high yield of millet.

Key words: millet, continuous cropping, crop rotation, leaf shape characteristics, chlorophyll, nitrogen
