Drought Monitoring in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain: Based on Meteorology and Remote Sensing

Abstract: The paper aims to carry on drought monitoring in the Huang-Huai-Hai plain comprehensively and systematically. We analyzed the drought spatial and temporal change in the Huang-Huai-Hai plain by using standard precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) and temperature vegetation drought index (TVDI). The results showed that: there was a weak trend of drought in the Huang-Huai-Hai plain from 1960 to 2016, among them, the annual scale drought occurred in 12 years and the drought distribution was uneven in different regions; the Huang-Huai-Hai plain had the highest frequency of mild drought, followed by moderate drought; TVDI in the main growth period of winter wheat tended to be arid from 2001 to 2016; the drought levels and distribution ranges were different in different growth periods; the drought in February was severe and the distribution was wide, mainly concentrated in the northern and eastern parts of the study area; the intensity and area of drought decreased from March to May, mainly in southern Hebei and eastern and central Shandong. The results can detect and evaluate the drought conditions in the Huang- Huai- Hai plain and provide reference for agricultural production and drought prevention.
