Abstract:

To study the separation characteristics of ear traits of maize, the parents ‘PH6WC’ and ‘PH4CV’ of maize hybrid ‘Xianyu 335’ and parents ‘Zheng 58’ and ‘Chang 7-2’ of hybrid ‘Zhengdan 958’ were hybridized to make the four-cross F2 separation population. Eleven ear traits data were identified, and correlation analysis and path analysis were carried out. The results showed that the variation coefficient (CV) of each trait had a wide range, from 7.68% to 96.27%, especially that of bald tip length reached peak value of 96.27%. The ear grain weight showed extremely significant or significant positive correlation with ear length, ear diameter, row number per ear, kernel number per row, kernel length, kernel thickness, cob diameter and 100-kernel weight. Path coefficient analysis revealed that kernel number per row, 100-kernel weight, row number per ear, ear length and kernel thickness had more positive effect on ear grain weight, while kernel width and bald tip length had more negative effect on ear grain weight. This study provides certain references for the ear traits improvement of maize.
