Abstract:

To study the physiological characteristics of seed germination of different rice cultivars, we selected 5 cultivars from 24 based on their seed germination rate, which represented 3 types of quick, medium and slow germination. The physiological characteristics of seed germination showed that: there were some differences in amylase activity and soluble sugar content among the cultivars with different germination rates; the cultivars (‘Yanliangyou 888’ and ‘Yanhui 888’) with quick germination rate had higher α-amylase activity and β-amylase activity, which were helpful to decompose starch, and had higher soluble sugar content during germination period, which could offer the energy and substances for seed germination; on the contrary, the cultivars with slow germination rate had lower amylase activity and soluble sugar content of seed. This study indicates that the amylase activity and soluble sugar content of rice seed have a positive correlation with the germination rate.
