Cymbidium mosaic virus and Odontoglossum ringspot virus: Research Progress on Detection Techniques and Virus Elimination

Abstract:

To clarify the research development of detection techniques and virus elimination methods of Cymbidium mosaic virus (CymMV) and Odontoglossum ringspot virus (ORSV), we summarized the detection and elimination methods of the two viruses and the virus elimination efficiency, analyzed the defects of traditional virus-free methods, and pointed out that the traditional virus-free methods could not meet the demand of orchid virus elimination research. Based on the analysis, a new safe and reliable virus-free method is proposed to solve the bottleneck of orchid industry. Cryotherapy, which has many advantages compared with the traditional methods, has been proven to be a new technique for plant pathogen elimination with successful application on several plants, and can provide a technical support to CymMV and ORSV elimination.
