Abstract:

This study is to determine the effect of mulberry leaf powder on growth performance and organ development of ‘Frizzle’ broiler. A total of 144 one-day-old female ‘Frizzle’ broilers were allocated to 4 groups with 6 replications (6 ‘Frizzle’ broilers/pen). 4 groups were set up: A group (basal diet), B group (A + 1.0% mulberry leaf powder), C group (A + 3.0% mulberry leaf powder), D group (A + 5.0% mulberry leaf powder). The experiment lasted for 28 days. The results showed that: dietary mulberry leaf powder supplementation decreased average daily gain (ADG) and increased the feed conversion ratio of ‘Frizzle’ broiler. Dietary 3.0% mulberry leaf powder supplementation increased feed conversion ratio significantly (P<0.05). Dietary 5.0% mulberry leaf powder supplementation decreased ADG significantly (P<0.05). No difference (P>0.05) was observed in the average daily feed intake, absolute organ weight, and relative organ index. Dietary mulberry leaf powder supplementation could improve the intestinal length and relative index to some extent, but not significantly (P>0.05). In view of the ‘Frizzle’ broilers’ growth performance, it is not necessary to supplement much dietary mulberry leaf powder in the daily ration of ‘Frizzle’ broilers from1-28 days of age.
