Abstract:

In order to clarify the research on various aspects of forest litter decomposition, this paper summarized the research progress of forest litter decomposition, mainly including the concept and research history of leaf litter, the decomposition process and nutrient release of litter, the influencing factors of litter decomposition, and the research on forest litter in the ‘home’/‘away’ habitat. The study is of certain significance to the sustainable use of forest resources. As global climate change is increasingly concerned by people, there are more and more reports about the impact of CO2 emission and N deposition on litter decomposition, but to better deal with these changes, the comprehensive and widely used technologies and indicators of litter analysis and prediction have not yet been established. Facing the development of the external environment and disciplines in the future, more comprehensive and effective measures need to be proposed. Based on summarizing the research progress of forest litter, this study aims to build a basis for further exploration in this field.

Key words: forest litter, decomposition process, nutrient release, influencing factor, ‘home-field advantage’ (HFA) effect
