Abstract:

In order to clarify the community structure and dynamics of Solenopsis invicta, the community structure and occurrence dynamics of S. invicta in Yiliang County of Kunming City were investigated by counting method and weighing method in 2016. The results showed that the sterile ants and sexual ants of the above-ground parts of nests accounted for 98.15% and 1.85% respectively, in 2016. Among the sterile ants, the number of adult worker ants and soldier ants was the largest, accounting for 83.38%. In the sexual ants’ group, the number of eggs, larvae and pupae was the largest, accounting for 52.15%. In 2016, the peak duration of S. invicta's dynamics was from June to September, with the largest number in August, mainly on sterile ants. The peak period of sexual ants’ dynamics was from June to August; for adults, the peak was in June; and the peak period of eggs, larvae and pupae occurred in August. Therefore, the key period for S. invicta control is from May to September. In the winter and spring of 2016-2017, the proportion of maximum number of sterile ants was 99.34%, and that of sexual ants was 0.66%. The number of S. invicta in the underground part of the nest was higher than that in the above-ground part. The number of S. invicta in the underground part accounted for 59.19%, and that in the above-ground part accounted for 40.81%. It provides a basis for the local control technology of S. invicta.
