Abstract: Both morphologic traits and agronomic traits of 121 sugar beet germplasm resources from home and abroad were studied on genetic diversity and cluster analysis to exploit the potentialities and promote the breeding of new cultivars and effective application of germplasm resources. Results showed that the investigation and analysis of 9 leaf morphological characters indicated that the diversity index of leaf blade thick was the highest, followed by leaf color, petiole length, leaf surface shape, petiole color, leaf margin shape, petiole width, petiole thick, and the least was leaf shape. Based on the genetic differentiations of leaf traits, 121 sugar beet varieties were divided into 4 groups by cluster analysis of leaf traits at 12.5 genetic distance by software SPSS 22.0. There were plenty of variations among varieties from different countries. Group Ⅰ of beet germplasm resources mainly came from China, United States, Italy and Belgium; group Ⅱ of beet germplasm resources mainly came from Russia, United States and China; group Ⅲ of beet germplasm resources mainly came from China, United States, Russia and Belgium; group Ⅳ of beet germplasm resources mainly came from China, Italy, United States, Belgium and Russia. To fully understand the leaf character distribution characteristics and the genetic diversity of beet germplasm, and the genetic relationship among the groups of germplasm resources has practical significance to identify specific germplasm and mining the excellent germplasm material.
