Maize Hybrid-segregating Population: Popping Characteristics Analysis

Abstract:

To reveal the genetic characteristics of popping characteristics of popcorn, an F₁ segregating population was obtained using eight maize inbred lines. Popping characteristics, 100-grain weight and 100-grain volume were measured, and the correlations among them were analyzed by correlation analysis and path analysis. The results showed that the variation coefficient (CV) of each trait had a wide range from 16.56% to 78.18%. The popping fold showed extremely and significantly positive correlation with the popping volume and popping rate, while it had extremely and significantly negative correlation with the 100-grain weight and 100-grain volume. The popping volume had more direct positive effect on the popping fold, while the hundred-grain weight had more direct negative effect. This study can provide certain reference for the genetic improvement of popping characteristics of popcorn.
