Abstract:

The paper aims to study the effect of artificial aging treatment with methanol solution on the germination index of sugar beet seeds, explore the storage resistance and aging mechanism of sugar beet seeds, and provide a theoretical basis for understanding the artificial aging of sugar beet seeds. In this study, TX2020, a newly harvested single seed, was used as experimental material, and 6 aging time (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 min) were set up. The seeds were treated with methanol aging method, and the germination test was carried out on the seeds. The germination potential, germination rate, germination index, vigor index, total length of radicle and hypocotyl and conductivity of seed extract were determined. The results showed that germination indexes of seeds decreased after aging treatment. Compared with those of the control, the germination potential, germination rate, germination index, vigor index and total length of radicle and hypocotyl were decreased by 8.8%-31.41%, 13.96%-34.23%, 2.66%-22.44%, 16.63%-36.44% and 7.54%-23.06%, respectively, while the conductivity of seed extract was increased compared with that of the control by 34.73%-76.19%. The results showed that methanol solution could inhibit the germination of sugar beet seeds. With different aging time, the inhibition effect of methanol solution on the germination indexes of sugar beet seeds was also different.
