Abstract:

To study the effects of planting density and nitrogen application on yield and quality of dwarf compact hybrid glutinous sorghum, the split-crack zone design was adopted in the experiment, and the main zone was sorghum variety. Two treatments were set, which were ‘Jinnuoliang No.1’ and ‘Munnuoliang No.1’. The split area was the planting density, and the planting density was divided into 4 treatments, which were 120000, 135000, 150000 and 165000 plants/hm2; the splitting zone was nitrogen application rate, and nitrogen application rate was divided into three treatments, which were 75, 120 and 165 kg/hm2. The grain yield, related characters and quality indexes were examined and analyzed at harvest time. The results showed that: variety, density and nitrogen application had significant effects on grain yield and main quality. With the increase of planting density, the effect of increasing nitrogen application rate on yield decreased gradually. Appropriately increasing planting density of dwarf compact hybrid glutinous sorghum could be employed as an effective way to reduce nitrogen application. Densification and nitrogen reduction can also effectively improve the crude starch and tannin quality of sorghum.
