Abstract: In order to explore the effect of planting density on yield and its composition factors, and study the optimum planting density under different fertility levels of ‘Zhengdan 2098’, the experiments were conducted in Xihua and Changge of Henan Province using ‘Zhengdan 2098’ as the material. The results showed that with the density increase, the yield first increased and then decreased, the plant height, ear height, ratio of empty stalk, bald tip all increased, while the ear length, ear diameter, particle number, double spike rate, ear grain weight, 100-grain weight decreased, and the shelling percentage was relatively stable. With the density increase, the number of rows per ear and bald tip were main influence factors on yield of ‘Zhengdan 2098’ under the middle fertility level, and the ear grain weight and 100-grain weight were main influence factors on yield of ‘Zhengdan 2098’ under the high fertility level. The optimum planting density of ‘Zhengdan 2098’ was 52500 plants/hm2 under middle fertility level, and the optimum planting density of ‘Zhengdan 2098’ was 67500 plants/hm2 under high fertility level.
