Abstract: The purpose was to provide evidence for establishing a scientific water management mode to reduce the cadmium concentration in rice. A field experiment was used to study the effects of three water management modes on cadmium concentration control in rice in Sanjie, Mengyang and Juntun Town of Sichuan Province. The three modes were farmers' routine management (CK), flooding in critical period (mode 1) and whole growth season flooding (mode 2). The results showed that there was no significant difference in plant height (P>0.05) among the three modes in three experimental fields. Compared with CK, the rice yields of mode 1 and mode 2 decreased. Among them, the rice yield of mode 2 significantly decreased (P<0.05). Compared with CK, the cadmium concentration in rice under mode 1 and mode 2 significantly decreased, while soil pH and calcium carbonate concentration of mode 1 and mode 2 significantly increased (P<0.05). Thus, the flooding technology in critical period is a kind of agricultural measure that can save water resource, ensure rice yield, and effectively reduce cadmium concentration in rice.
