Abstract:

Odor induction and feature preference are major factors affecting sweetpotato weevil’s feeding. In order to understand the selectivity of sweetpotato weevil to odor of different sweet potato varieties and correlation between sweet potato’s odor and weevil resistance, an odor selection test of 14 sweet potato varieties was carried out by using Y-type olfactometer, and each variety’s resistance was calculated. The results showed that the response rate, trapping rate, and selection coefficient of sweetpotato weevil to 14 sweet potato varieties were significantly different. The response rate, trapping rate, and selection coefficient was 0.3-1, 02-0.9556, and -0.03-0.91, respectively. Among the 14 varieties, Eshu 15 had the minimum selection coefficient of -0.03, showing the highest weevil resistance, while both Eshu 6 and Shangshu 19 had the maximum selection coefficient of 0.91, showing the highest susceptive to weevil. This study establishes a basis for sweetpotato weevil control and will help the identification of weevil-resistant sweet potato variety.
