Abstract:

In the absence of plant symbiosis, arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) fungi cannot be purely cultured on medium like other fungi, which greatly restricts the basic and applied research on AM fungi. This study aims at clarifying the development process and characteristics of different culture methods of arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) fungi, and achieving the goal of pure culture of AM fungi. The authors reviewed and compared the symbiotic culture methods between AM fungi and the whole plant, including pot culture method, nutrient film technique, aeroponics and medium culture. The authors also summarized the dual culture methods between AM fungi and plant roots, including non-transformed root culture and transformed root culture. At last, the authors put forward some future research focuses in order to provide reference for the research of AM fungi culture and symbiotic mechanism.

Key words: arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, symbiotic culture, dual culture, symbiotic mechanism
