Abstract:

The core goal of China’s agricultural supply-side structural reform is to improve agricultural total factor productivity and its contribution to agricultural development. In order to test the agricultural total factor productivity of Guizhou and its impact on agricultural economic growth, relevant data of 9 regions from 2010 to 2017 were used to measure and decompose the agricultural total factor productivity by using non-parametric Malmquist index method, and the productivity’s promotion on agricultural economic growth was determined. The results showed that the main reason of agricultural total factor productivity growth in Guizhou was the technological progress rather than technical efficiency. The total factor productivity of agriculture in Guizhou varied widely among different regions. Technological progress and efficiency improvement had a significant positive effect on the agricultural economic growth in Guizhou, the input of agricultural machinery and the increase of sowing area still had a promoting effect on the growth of agricultural economy, while the input of labor force and the increase of using fertilizer did not play the above role.

Key words: non-parametric Malmquist index method, total factor productivity, agricultural economic growth, technical progress, technical efficiency
