Abstract:

In order to scientifically apply the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) resources widely distributed in agroecosystems to herbs, AMF classification, the current status of Chinese herb resources and the application of AMF in herbs were summarized in the paper individually. AMF can not only improve the nutritional level and enhance the growth of herbs, but also promote the synthesis and accumulation of active substances in herbs such as terpenoids, steroids and flavonoids. Moreover, AMF show positive biocontrol effects on various soil borne diseases and pests caused by continuous cropping system of herbs. Therefore, AMF have great application potential in herbs' cultivation. Meanwhile, in view of the obligate symbiosis characteristics of mycorrhizae, some research issues still need to be explored, such as the expansion of the herb species associated with AMF, the mixed inoculation of AMF with other beneficial microorganisms, and the changes in soil ecological environment during the establishment of symbiosis. The study will provide reference for further research in the field.
