Genetic Engineering of Organic Acid Metabolic Pathway for Utilizing Phosphorus Nutrition Efficiently by Plants

Abstract: With development of the modern agriculture,improvement of phosphorus utilization efficiency is very important for promoting sustainable agriculture development. In acid and alkali soil, there are mainly indissoluble bivalent or trivalent phosphates, which cannot be utilized by plants. The molecular mechanism which the plant strongly utilizes the soil phosphorus is excreting more organic acid by altering organic acid metabolic pathway. This paper will make a brief summary on genetic engineering in the over-expression of citrate synthase and malate dehydrogenase in transgenic plants to improve the utilization of insoluble phosphorus.
