Rice leafroller(Cnaphalocrocis medinalis(Guenée)) is one of major rice pests, the second and third generation among 6~8 generations whole year seriously damage early rice. Influenced by pests source, climate and planting conditions etc. factors, there are several occurrence characteristics of third generation in guangxi, including occurrence wide range, large area, many adult peaks, long-period peaks, large number of moths, high population density, long-period damage, complex field insect, total occurrence area 756 000 hm2, being most serious occurrence one year since 1949. The authors analyze several main reasons, including suitable climate during occurrence period(from late May to mid-June)of third generation,large second generation residual base, large number of abroad migration moths, considerable quantities stranded third generation moths, delayed rice growing period, more bridge fields, adequate pest food, as a result of many rain days, labor tension, inadequate emergency control pesticides, being difficult to implement emergency control etc..
